Help will run until Friday, June 12th in the morning.  Come get help with organization, homework, studying, and final exam preparation!  Student Counselors: Thank you for a great year!!!If you are interested in working in the elementary schools in the Fall, please attend a lunch meeting on Friday, June 6th during HS lunch in FACS.  SEEK CAMP runs from July 7 – 25 at Leland & Gray.  It’s science, math, writing and technology but like nothing you’ve experienced before: all hands on activities, and “outside fun,” too.  Chef Joe is creating great breakfast and lunch menus for SEEK camp.  SEEK Counselor Training is on Thursday, June 12th from 2:30 – 4:30 PM in B-11.

A NOTE FROM MS. Z!
On Tuesday, June 10 students in grades 7-12 will be invited to complete a needs assessment for the school counseling department. Their valuable input will help allow the school counselors to thoughtfully consider student needs for academics, college and career planning and social/emotional development. If parents choose not to have students complete the assessment, they may call or email Ms. Z.

ENVIRONMENTAL OUTDOOR CLUB
Environmental Outdoor Club - New to L&G! - We meet every Thursday during middle and high school lunch with Ms. Davis, and Ms. Nyzio. Some issues we are beginning to address are: the elimination of the use of Styrofoam in the cafeteria, improve our recycling efforts, offer opportunities for students to hike locally after school, re-building the greenhouse, and to educate the school community on environmental issues. Two students from the group will be attending the Slow Living Summit in Brattleboro. The Summit is an educational conference based on the idea of a "slow life". When we live a "slow life" we recognize our role as members of our bioregions and of our Earth, taking a nourishing rather than an extracting approach to living. The summit is sponsored by Strolling of the Heifers. This is just a sampling of what we are about. We encourage all L&G students and family to get involved.

A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
A COORDINATED APPROACH:  The WCSU has a compelling interest in addressing students’ health needs because healthy students learn better and are more likely to stay in school.  In the school setting, behaviors are developed and reinforced that will last a lifetime.  The WCSU School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) was established to promote the physical, mental, social, and emotional health of the students in WCSU and to support the development of health-promoting school environments.
Our SHAC uses the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Coordinated School Health (CSH) model that is a clear and practical approach designed to support the health and achievement of students.   It addresses 8 components of WCSU school community life:  education for lifelong healthy living, nutritious meals, policies that support a positive psychosocial and hazard-free environment, involvement of families and communities in promoting the well-being of young people, opportunities for staff members to foster their own well-being, and services that prevent or treat mental and physical health conditions that interfere with learning.
Administrators, faculty, parents, students, community members, and local agency representatives all add to the effort of the SHAC.  Please contact me if you wish to join us in the 2014-2015 school year.
