SCHOOL INFO:

Hoops for Hope:

The 2nd annual Hoops for Hope will be on February 3rd and 4th vs Twin Valley.  The Girls JV will be playing on Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:30pm followed by the Girls Varsity at 7pm.  The Boys JV will be playing Thursday, February 4th at 5:30pm followed by the Boys Varsity at 7pm.  The event is in honor of Lexy Giallella and all the proceeds from the event go towards her scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded to a L&G senior.  We look forward to seeing you at the event supporting, honoring and remembering Lexy, her family and our community.

Powerschool Changes:

The Windham Central Supervisory Union has updated Powerschool to the latest version (9.1) and there is one important change parents need to be aware of, which is to the Parent Access portal.  Parents need to create a new account.  The instructions on how to do that are located here.

Refuse to Use:

The dates have been set for the mandatory parent/student dialogue nights.

We have found non conflicting dates for MS sports, JV sports and Varsity sports.

Grade 7 & 8- Tuesday,January 19th 6pm-8pm- Mandatory Refuse to Use and Winter/Spring Extra Curricular Parent Student Night

Grades 9 & 10 Monday, January 25 6pm-8pm Mandatory Refuse to Use and Winter/Spring Extra Curricular Parent Student Night

Grades 11 & 12 Thursday, January 28 6pm-8 pm Mandatory Refuse to Use and Winter/Spring Extra Curricular Parent Student Night

8th Grade Parents:

8th grade homework assignments build on what has happened that day in class.  The lesson is taught and assignments are typically begun in class.  They need to be completed before the next class.  Without completed homework, students will not be as successful in the next day.  This design is intended to help 8th graders become more independent learners, a skill needed for high school.  Please check Power School daily to see what the day's homework assignment is, and ask to see your child's homework when it is completed.

Juniors & Seniors & Their Parents/Guardians:

Every week Sarah sends out an E-newsletter containing all things college and career. Many of you are on the list to receive it, but many are not! There is so much information pertaining to life after high school, this is the most effective way to communicate it to you. If you do NOT get this e-letter, please email Sarah and request to be added to the list. sgrasso@lelandandgray.org

Co-curricular social and recreational activities are carefully planned and delivered to complement the instructional day. The camp “learning community” approaches learning as a shared responsibility among students, instructors, and counselors.

Leland & Gray Players:

Leland and Gray Players’ second show of its 20th season be William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. For years the Players have been asking to “The Scottish Play,” dubbed that for generations by superstitious actors.* All our students read Macbeth in 10th grade and they become rapt by its tensions, spirits, ghosts –and by its central theme:  Greed and gullibility can do you in!  Beware of “vaulting ambition”!

The cast for Macbeth features many Player veterans and, happily, many new faces on the stage including Greg Holland known to audiences for his musical prowess; Sam Harrison, a running crew captain, and Cody Cutler, Jordan Gouger, and Owen McDonald, all known to us as excellent athletes.  This is what the Players are about:  Everyone is welcome.  Chloe Fawcett who debuted with the Players in Drood plays Malcolm rewritten as a woman’s role; Emma Urbaska, who also debuted in the fall is Lady Macbeth; Nathaniel Van Osdol is Macbeth. The remaining cast includes Sam Thibault, Adam Culver, Kenny Cashman, Alice Coyne, Rebekah Winot, Luke Parker-Jennings, Dakota Gervais, Abbie Hazelton, Trey Crego, Christian Cannella, Makaylee Cutts.  Fairen Stark and Anthony Corona are set and costume designers respectively.  Susie Francy is composing original incidental music for the production which plays Thursday, March 3 at 7; Friday, March 4 at 7:30; Saturday, March 5 at 7:30 and Sunday, March 6 at 3pm.

For more information—and to acquire a teacher’s packet for those who which to bring student groups—please contact Annie Landenberger:  alandenberger@lelandandgray.org,802.365.7355 x204.
