SCHOOL INFO:

Radon Update:

Following the board meeting where radon levels were discussed, two things have happened:

1) The school's drinking water has been tested for radon and uranium and "both are under the limits for drinking water in Vermont." (Ian Schrauf, H2O Guy Environmental Services)

2) The radon mitigation work has been completed, levels have dropped though two areas are still below recommended levels (Library and Weight Room).  The mitigation company is researching larger exhaust fans to improve suction.  Dutton work is scheduled for June.

Project Graduation:

Seniors, pick-up the guest request form in the office or ask Mrs. Liskowsky-Doak for one. They should be filled out and turned into Terry by Friday, June 2nd.

Parents of Seniors:

There will be a slideshow at Class Night of the graduating seniors.  Students have been given the opportunity to submit photos though we are still missing photos from many students.  If you have some great photos of your senior (or their friends), please email them to fridaynotes@lelandandgray.org to be included in the slideshow.

Service Learning in Ecuador in April 2018:

Have you ever thought of traveling to a foreign country to work beside the natives in a service learning project? Now is your chance to take a meaningful sustainable and unforgettable venture into the heart of Ecuador’s lush Amazonian rain forest, where you’ll find one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems. In Otavalo, you’ll experience the culture and heritage of the city, visiting the Mercados de los Ponchos—a famous market known for its local beautiful textiles—and learning how traditional crafts and meals are prepared when you visit a local family’s home. As you’re immersed in the Quito and Otavalo cultures, you’ll also put your hands to work: building and restoring local schools and promoting social justice.

Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development:

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Windham Central Supervisory Union would like to invite all parents of students in PreK-8th grade to attend a new workshop called Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development. This workshop opportunity is made possible by Prevent Child Abuse Vermont and the Vermont Children’s Trust Fund. Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development is designed to provide information on children’s healthy sexual development and help adults become more comfortable talking with children about sexuality.
In this workshop, parents and caregivers will:

  • Learn about the different stages of children’s sexual development and common behaviors in each stage
  • Develop skills and strategies to support healthy development
  • Discuss the challenges of raising children in a culture that sends mixed messages about sexuality
  • Learn how to answer children’s questions in age-appropriate, non-shaming ways

The workshop is scheduled for Monday, June 5th, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 at Leland and Gray Union Middle & High School.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please feel free to contact Hannah Parker at hparker@windhamcentral.org.
Please r.s.v.p. to Melanie Zwolinski at mzwolinski@lelandandgray.org regarding whether or not you’ll be attending. We look forward to seeing and hearing from you!
Thank you!

If you have not yet taken one of these exams, it is highly recommended that you do so, at least once. Either exam is accepted at all schools that require standardized testing. Even if you think you are applying only to schools that do not require test scores, it is a really good idea to take one test!!! Better safe than sorry!

Camp Daybreak:

Know someone interested in giving back to their community or who could use a supportive experience this summer?

Camp Daybreak is a program that serves Vermont kids ages 8-11 with a range of social, emotional, and behavioral needs by pairing them with a high school volunteer. These relationships are extremely powerful for both our campers and our volunteers. Our campers, many of whom would not be successful in traditional camp settings, are provided with constant support and encouragement while our volunteers receive a unique hands on training on mental health conditions and kids. Everyone has fun and leaves Camp Daybreak being positively affected.

Join us and help create a life changing experience for our campers and volunteers! Space is limited.
