Moving On Up Day:

On Wednesday, June 5th Leland & Gray will be hosting Moving On Up Day for all incoming 6th, 7th and 9th graders.  Current 8th graders will be shadowing current 9th and 10th graders (arranged by the counseling department) and incoming 6th and 7th graders will spend the day along with current 7th graders doing various activities within the Middle School.  If you have questions, please reach out to Phoebe Connolly, Sarah Grasso or Dr. Harrigan.

Parent Information Night:

On Wednesday, June 5th from 6:30-7:30pm in the Main Gym there will be a parent information night for all rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders.  This will also be when students and their families have an opportunity to sign up for their Exploratory classes.  We look forward to seeing you all there!

As you are cleaning out your closets, putting your winter clothing away, and getting your spring and summer wardrobes out, sorting through what to keep and what to get rid of, please consider bringing unwanted clothing items to L&G.  This year we have changed our routine with regards to snow days and our day rotations (green/white and A/B/C). The change - reflected in the attached calendars (click here) is that when we have a snow day, we will SKIP the intended day and NOT PUSH it. In other words, the days are hard-scheduled for the year in advance.

Mimesis 2019 Announcement:

Mimesis, Leland and Gray's fabulous literary magazine featuring the work of Leland & Gray students and staff will be published again in early June. We'd love to showcase your work! Please submit your poetry, prose, graphics (high contrast drawings or photographs that will reproduce well in black and white), or digital projects (for the online version of the magazine) by  5/15/19.

Parent Letter from WRVT:

Grace Cottage "Spring into Health" 5K set for May 11th:

On Mother’s Day Weekend, all are invited to the 10^th Annual “Spring into Health” 5K to benefit Grace Cottage Hospital. The event takes place Saturday, May 11, starting at 8:30 am on the Townshend Common, rain or shine. Registration is now open. Students and their families are encouraged to attend.

The race will be professionally-timed, but all are welcome to participate at whatever pace they choose. The course, out and back on Grafton Road, is paved and mainly flat. Healthy snacks and water will be provided. Free t-shirts for the first 100 to register.

After the run, there will be awards for fastest male and female finishers, raffles, and general merriment. There is also a free Fun Run for kids 6 and under on the Common at 9:15 a.m.

Event Director Dr. Moss Linder is pleased to welcome special guest Amby Burfoot to the event this year. Burfoot won the 1968 Boston Marathon and hasn’t stopped running since. He served as longtime editor-in-chief of Runner’s World magazine, authored several books on running (and life), and is an inspirational mentor and coach to many. Amby will be happy to chat with event participants and will have autographed books available for purchase.

Runners and walkers can register for the 5K online for an early bird rate of just $15 at www.gracecottage.org/events. Online registration closes at noon on Thursday, May 9. Event day registration takes place between 7:45 – 8:15 for $20, but no guarantee of getting a t-shirt. Parking is available at Leland and Gray.

New England Youth Theatre is celebrating its 20th year with lots of great summer programs for kids ages 6-19! From Shakespeare to Improv to Melodrama along with our Design and Technical program, we've got something for everyone, even those who prefer to remain behind the scenes! The Secret Garden

Main Street Arts is excited to announce auditions for our next musical at the Bellows Falls Opera House- "The Secret Garden"!  The show performances will take place October 25th through November 3rd.

Auditions will be held:

May 17th from 6:30-9:30

May 18th from 1:00-3:30

May 19th from 3:00-5:30

Auditionees should bring a prepared song or part of a song. (At least 16 bars)

We will also have a movement section of auditions. Although "Secret Garden" is not a "dance show", our concept will likely integrate significant movement for the "dreamer" ensemble.  This ensemble will be much larger than is typical, with total cast size being between 30 and 40.  Those auditioning will also be asked to read from the text.
