Friday Notes 12-13-19

SCHOOL INFO:

Heat at L&G:

Members of the L&G Community:

With the passing of the bond vote to rebuild the wood-chip boiler, the project is beginning to take shape.  Beginning Monday, December 16th, the wood-chip boiler will be off-line through sometime in February, as the work is done to completely rebuild the system.  Our back-up system (oil) will be running throughout the down time, but depending upon outside temperatures, we may experience a school environment that is slightly cooler than what we are accustomed to.

For that reason, I would suggest that students (and staff!) come to work over the next few months dressed in layers - particularly if we have a bad cold snap.  We do not want students carrying blankets around, however, as that type of approach limits movement too much and can be detrimental to the learning environment.  If students are short on clothing (sweatshirts, coats, etc) we have a room full of clean, gently worn items that we can give out on a permanent basis.  For more information on getting clothing from our supply, please contact the counselors or the school nurse (Sarah Grasso sgrasso@lelandandgray.org, Phoebe Connolly pconnolly@lelandandgray.org, and Lauren Shockley lshockley@lelandandgray.org).

We apologize for the timing of this repair, but due to the necessity to revote the bond vote, the repair was delayed until now.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you,

Bob Thibault

Vermont High School Students: Senator Sanders wants to hear from You!

SOTU Roundtable 2018
The Vermont high school State of the Union essay contest is now in its tenth year! I put this contest together to create an opportunity for Vermont high school students to be actively engaged in our democratic process and think about solutions to the major problems facing our country. Over the past nine years, more than 4,000 students from across Vermont participated, writing essays about critically important issues like climate change, access to mental health care, and the rising cost of college. I cannot wait to see what our students write about this year. The deadline to submit an essay is January 8, 2020.

On Saturday, December 7th, Dr. Prescott will read some of these stories and answer questions from readers at the Moore Free Library at noon. Light refreshments will be served. This program is free and open to the public. Moore Free Library, 23 West Street, Newfane. (802) 365-7948 or moorefreelibrary.org for more information.
