Childcare for West River Board Meeting:

Terry Davidson Berger has arranged for Childcare for the Dec 9th West River Board Meeting. It will run from 7pm to 9pm. Parents simply come to the Library and our Student will be there to provide Childcare.

50/50 Winner:

Greg Dean, accepting the prize for his wife Jill Dean, who was the winner of the Class of 2021's 50/50 raffle. Jill won $469.00, but opted to only accept $100.00. She generously donated the remainder of her winnings back to the class for their expenses of hosting the prom this year and to add to the funds for next year. Congratulation Jill and THANK YOU to all who bought tickets and supported the class fundraiser.

Winter Activity Letter:

Hello Rebel Nation!

It is that time of year again in Vermont where the temperatures are dropping and the snow is falling.  Leland and Gray is getting ready to start up another season of Winter Activities!

We have secured an exciting list of activities for our students and look forward to some awesome Winter Activities season.

We offer Winter Activities that are both on site and some are off-site. Some activities have fees and some are free..  

The dates for Winter Activities are January 8, 22, 29 and February 5, 12 and 26.

Here are the options for Winter Activities:

1. Hip Hop:  no charge

2. 3 vs 3 Basketball:  no charge

3. Snowshoeing and Winter Fun at L&G:  no charge

4. Weight Training:  no charge

5. Yoga:  no charge

6. Corn Hole:  no charge

7. Bowling in Brattleboro:  $50 transportation fee and $7/day (includes shoe rental)

8. Cross Country Skiing and Outdoor Exploration:  $50 transportation fee and $10/day for site

9. Skiing and Snowboarding at Stratton Mountain:  $50 transportation fee and a Stratton Pass or Refuse to Use pass

10. Ice Skating in Brattleboro:  $50 transportation fee and $2.50/day for rentals $3.00m for ice

11. New England Center for Circus Arts:  (There will be a fee for the activity and transportation, it’s just not available yet)

12. Rock Climbing at the Bratt Cave in Brattleboro:  $50 transportation fee and $10/day (includes shoe rental)

13. Gerda’s Horse Rescue

14. Planet Fitness-HS only (a possibility ...still working out the details) $50 transportation fee and daily fee still in negotiation

On Monday, December 2rd there will be an assembly where the activities are announced.  After the assembly students will go to their advisories to sign up for a winter activity.  Some activities have limited space but we have to be able to accommodate students first choice.  Please review this list with your student this weekend so they are prepared to come to sign up on Monday.

All transportation fees will need to be paid upfront before the first Winter Activity date.

Moore Free Library Community Service Opportunity:

Thinking ahead to Spring!  - Community Service Opportunity

The Moore Free Library in Newfane is looking for a student volunteer to mow their lawn from Mid-April to October.  It usually takes about one hour, once a week.

Community Service Opportunities- Gerda's Equine Rescue:

Gerda's Equine Rescue in West Townshend is looking for volunteers!  Horse lovers and non-horse lovers wanted!  

We have activities from yard maintenance, cleaning, barn work, even filing in the office. Possibly for the right person assistance with video, photography and our website, or even volunteering for events.

Adventure Academy: Connecting Mind and Movement in Middle Schoolers

A week long program for middle school students focused on athletics and the importance of Executive Function (organization, time management, planning, study skills, and more).

Monday, June 22 – Friday, June 26, 2020, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Landmark College in Putney.

Horse Parade:

Community Hope & Action will have a beverage tent at the Horse Parade. (EVENT IS WEATHER PERMITTING)


The 2019 Holiday of Horses Parade in Townshend will be on Sunday Dec. 8th at 1:00, weather permitting. Starting at L&G, bedecked horses will go to valley cares and return. Riders who would like to participate must contact Roger Poitras at 802-365-7668

Summer Program Opportunity:

Newfane resident, Dr. Blake Prescott’s new collection “Short Stories, Tall Tales, and Surprise Endings” has recently been published. This is a collection of some thirty one short stories, liberally stirred with humor, heavily spiced with a few dozen illustrations from the author's hand,  and variously served from bite size to full meal – from one page to  multi-chaptered  – all to satisfy a wide variety of palates.  Relax in an armchair and travel on our greatest rivers, from the Nile to the Amazon,  jump from pole to pole, from the arctic to Tierra del Fuego, and prepare yourself for a journey where one story invites you to read the next. On Saturday, December 7th, Dr. Prescott will read some of these stories and answer questions from readers at the Moore Free Library at noon. Light refreshments will be served. Does town meeting leave you shaking your head? Do you have an idea that you want your fellow citizens to consider in March? Do the procedures mystify you? Learn about the nuts and bolts of town meeting with Attorney and former Deputy Secretary of State Paul Gillies, Newfane Town Moderator Deborah Lee Luskin, and Brookline Moderator David Parker as the Nuts & Bolts of Local Government series continues at the Moore Free Library in Newfane. December's workshop on town meeting will take place on Saturday, December 7th from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. This monthly series will help explain who does what in your government. On Sunday, December 29th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, Deborah Lee Luskin will provide guidance and prompts for automatic writing as part of the third annual "Writing to the Light" writers circle at the Moore Free Library. Together, participants will create a safe space for those who wish to read their new words.
