Wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating to reduce the concentration of loosely attached germs, not the indigenous flora. There are several ways to accomplish this: soap and water, sanitizers, and wipes. Of these different methods, using plain soap (not antibacterial soap) and running water has been shown to be the most effective at removing more organisms from your hands. Critical components to effectively clean hands include lathering with soap, using friction on all surfaces of the hands, and cleaning under the fingernails. Remember, soap does not kill germs; it loosens and clings to the germs and organic matter and the friction and water rinses soap and germs away.
Next week I’ll discuss the T-zone, the ONLY portal for entry into the body for all respiratory infections.

Tax Preparation Assistance:
United Way Windham County is offering two programs that provide FREE federal and state income-tax preparation services to eligible taxpayers: the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program and MyFreeTaxes.
For eligible households earning $53,000 or less per year, a VITA sitewill be available in Brattleboro where IRS-certified volunteers provide FREE tax preparation. UWWC is also partnering with MyFreeTaxes.com, a FREE on-line tool available to eligible households earning $60,000 or less a year. Call 2-1-1 for more information.
