Friday Notes 5/19/23

SCHOOL INFO

May 19, 2023

Dear L&G Families:

Happy Friday everyone!  As we get closer and closer to the end of the school year, I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about stress.  All of us experience stress in our lives - from work, from home, from family, etc.  Stress in and of itself isn’t bad - for example, we all need a little stress to help us take action (deadlines) or think creatively.  Excessive stress can be troubling and enduring excessive stress for prolonged periods can have a significant negative impact on people (including MS and HS students).  I’ve been sharing with students (in the morning announcement zooms) information about Mental Health Awareness Month (May) and I’ve talked a lot about stress impacting mental health.  Please take the opportunity to talk with your children about their stress levels as the semester comes to an end.  It will be important to support their efforts to get work completed, retake summatives as needed, and in some cases prepare for life after high school!

Bob Thibault

Principal

Scholarships Available for Junior Golf Camps:

The Brattleboro Country Club Women’s Golf Association sponsors a scholarship program for golf camps using proceeds from redeemable bottles and cans collected at the Club and in our homes. In the first 2 years of our program, we have provided 3 scholarships on a first come, first serve basis. We hope to increase this amount as the program grows. Golf is a great way for kids to get outdoor exercise in a safe and fun environment. This summer BCC will offer 3 full and half-day Junior golf camps; June 26-30, July 17-21 & Aug. 7-11, 2023. We are looking for girls and boys ages 6-16 who might not be able to afford the camps. To learn more about PGA Junior Golf Camps, click here or contact BCC Golf Pro Michael Zaranak at 802-257-7380. Here is a link to a video from last summer’s camp. Click here to learn more about why golf is good for kids. For more information about our scholarships, contact Betsy Whittaker at betsyw94@gmail.com. Interested in helping? Drop off redeemable bottles and cans at either of Brattleboro’s recycling centers. Tell the staff to credit the proceeds to the BCC Women’s Golf Association. (The school is conveying this information to parents since we assume that those persons interested will avail themselves of the opportunity. The school is neither endorsing the activity nor discouraging participation.)

Friday Notes 5/5/23

SCHOOL INFO

May 5, 2023 Dear L&G Families: This week a vast majority of our students participated in the new (and improved???) state testing protocol - Cognia. This included all 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th graders. While there were a few hiccups, overall the sessions went well. Thank you for your support in having your child take this seriously, as the data gleaned from the assessments will become public in the fall. In the coming weeks, students will be asked to complete a school climate survey about their experiences here at L&G. If you do not want your child to participate in this, please see the attached letter for information on how to opt out. Bob Thibault Principal
