Nurse Update:

March 21, 2022

Spring is in the air along with mud and sugar season.  For me, there is nothing better to do in the spring than visit my sister’s family sugar house and smell the sap as it evaporates into sweet golden deliciousness. I am guilty of sipping on warm liquid gold as my nephew fills jugs for future use.  Along with seasonal changes we are experiencing, there are changes with COVID-19 guidelines I would like to share with you (the state has provided, and we have decided to adopt this sample School Illness policy). The links below are the new guidelines, as of today.

Sample School Illness Policy for Possible COVID-19 Illness

PreK-12 Schools

covid19-testing-program-consent-form-print-version

The School Nurses have Rapid Antigen Test Kits and a few LAMP tests to share with anyone who would like them.  Either send your student to the nurse’s office, or email the nurse working in your child’s school to request kits.  The nurses are also able to perform rapid antigen testing on your student if they become ill during school. A consent form or verbal permission must be received before the nurses can perform the test.  If you have already signed a consent form this year, you do not need to sign another one.

I hope you all have a wonderful spring.

COMMUNITY

Prom Outfits:

Long Range Planning Community Visioning:

We are inviting all community members, especially those who will be voting on the school budget, to come contribute to the future vision for our schools in our school district. The school board has been engaged in a planning process for several years at this point (please review the WRED website for more background information: https://sites.google.com/windhamcentral.org/west-river-education-district/home) and we are holding public sessions to participate in the same visioning process that the school board participated in during their last long range planning meeting. This protocol is called 'Back to the Future' and it is an opportunity to envision the best version of our schools for our children.

We invite you to join one (or all) of these in-person sessions in order to contribute your vision for the future of schools. Masking is optional at all of these sessions, in alignment with current guidelines at all of these schools. These sessions are designed to last 1 hour, and will be led by community volunteers to help gather more input from our community, which will be shared with the school board to inform their planning.

Newbrook Elementary School: Monday, March 28th @ 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Dutton Gym/Townshend: Wednesday March 30th @ 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Jamaica Elementary School: Saturday, April 2nd @ 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Please join us!

You may have also seen boards up at the Newfane Store, West River Provisions, The Harmonyville Store, and River Bend Market - please put your ideas on the boards!

The more voices and ideas that are gathered at this point the better. We want to create the best educational future for our children, and we need to hear as many voices as possible in order to do so. Thank you!

We also have a way to contribute digitally - GOOGLE FORM LINK

Want to see what others have said so far?  Check out this Miro Board.  This contains all the responses so far and will be populated with all future responses.  So check back in!

Friday Notes 3/4/22

SCHOOL INFO

Upcoming Dates:

  • Week of March 7th - Spirit Week!

  • Tuesday, March 8th - Concert in celebration of Music In Our Schools Month

  • Wednesday, March 16 - HS students have a late arrival (9:15am) as we start up our PBL days for the spring.  Remember that buses still run at the normal time.

  • Thursday, March 17 - Parent Conferences (see below)

  • Wednesday, March 23 - All school early release day (teacher in-service)

  • Wednesday, March 30 - PBL day for HS (9:15 arrival)

Parent Conferences:

Very soon, if not already, teachers will be emailing the link to sign up for parent conferences.  These will happen on Thursday, March 17th either in person or via zoom.  For grades 9-12, there will be an early release on that day at 11:30am.  Buses will run at that time.  For grades 6-8, there will be no school on that day, so that teachers and parents have the full day to collaborate.  We really want to get more engagement overall - in the fall just over 50% of students had a conference!  We’d really love to see that number increase!

Music Concert:

This March 8th at 7:00 Leland and Gray in collaboration with our district elementary schools are hosting a concert in celebration of Music In Our Schools Month! Please join us in this celebration either in person or through our live stream (link available the morning of the concert) Come watch former and current students, neighbors and friends making high quality music together for the first time in over two years! Staff and faculty from all schools are also invited to perform with the band and chorus (it’s easy music, I promise!). Email Elyse Wadsworth at ewadsworth@windhamcentral.org (Leland and Gray chorus director) if you have any questions or would like to participate.
