Reminder:

Just a reminder to all families and students to please cross the road in front of all school buses and not behind them.  The bus drivers can't see behind them and want to be sure everyone stays safe! 

Nurse Update:

March 21, 2022

 Spring is in the air along with mud and sugar season.  For me, there is nothing better to do in the spring than visit my sister’s family sugar house and smell the sap as it evaporates into sweet golden deliciousness. I am guilty of sipping on warm liquid gold as my nephew fills jugs for future use.  Along with seasonal changes we are experiencing, there are changes with COVID-19 guidelines I would like to share with you (the state has provided, and we have decided to adopt this sample School Illness policy). The links below are the new guidelines, as of today.

The School Nurses have Rapid Antigen Test Kits and a few LAMP tests to share with anyone who would like them.  Either send your student to the nurse’s office, or email the nurse working in your child’s school to request kits.  The nurses are also able to perform rapid antigen testing on your student if they become ill during school. A consent form or verbal permission must be received before the nurses can perform the test.  If you have already signed a consent form this year, you do not need to sign another one.

We sure hope these highlights have you asking how you can help get young people involved in these exciting and important projects! Here is a summary of 2022 opportunities with VYCC.

Please share this with those you know! We’re so excited to meet and work with folx who want to make a difference.   Camp Counselors Needed: Summer Camp Counselor Sponsored by the WSWSU Wings Community Programs, Town of Whitingham and the Town of Wilmington  General Statement of Duties: Perform duties as assigned by the Program Director.  Supervise and facilitate outdoor activities, arts and crafts activities, supervises breakfast and lunch times. Assist program leaders as needed. Complete assigned duties including adhering to and promoting all safety & health protocols.  Shall be present for all program hours. Supervision Received: Receives supervision directly from the site director while exercising individual initiative and independent action Supervision Responsibilities: May exercises direct supervision for children enrolled in the program. Counselors will be trained and expected to participate in Emergency drills and follow all safety & health protocols. Illustrative Examples of Work: Helps support activities for a multiple-week program from 8 a.m. until @4:00 p.m. on weekdays beginning July 11.  The Monday through Friday work week is approximately 40 hours per week or as assigned by the Directors. Counselors are expected to participate in and develop diverse activities of interest to youngsters from preschool to grade 8. You may be asked to help keep a daily sheet of participants by name and a list of daily activities with notes about the interest in the daily program. Masks will be required if recommended by CDC or DOH. Qualifications: Desire to work with children, dependability, self-motivation, creativity, and enthusiasm.  .  Counselors are expected to engage campers and actively participate in summer activities as role models. Counselors are not watchers they are leaders! Experience in recreation and team building activities a plus. Long Range Planning Community Visioning:

We are inviting all community members, especially those who will be voting on the school budget, to come contribute to the future vision for our schools in our school district. The school board has been engaged in a planning process for several years at this point (please review the WRED website for more background information: https://sites.google.com/windhamcentral.org/west-river-education-district/home) and we are holding public sessions to participate in the same visioning process that the school board participated in during their last long range planning meeting. This protocol is called 'Back to the Future' and it is an opportunity to envision the best version of our schools for our children.

We invite you to join one (or all) of these in-person sessions in order to contribute your vision for the future of schools. Masking is optional at all of these sessions, in alignment with current guidelines at all of these schools. These sessions are designed to last 1 hour, and will be led by community volunteers to help gather more input from our community, which will be shared with the school board to inform their planning.

The Stratton Foundation Presents A Virtual Leadership Speaker Series Teens, teachers, and parents are invited.
