Choices Matter

Dear Leland & Gray Middle and High School Parents,

We are excited to share that Leland & Gray Middle and High School will be hosting a special event on December 12th, 2023. The primary focus of this event is to inspire our students to make informed and responsible decisions, both on the road and in their lives. In partnership with the Vermont Principals Association, we are proud to present Choices Matter, a life-altering in-school program that utilizes personal stories and interactive materials to engage and connect students with its important message.

Our featured guest for this event is the renowned motivational speaker and author, Ethan Fisher. He will be sharing his remarkable life story with the students of Leland & Gray Middle and High School. His mission is to help teenagers and young adults understand the profound impact of every choice they make. By sharing his own life journey, Ethan illustrates the devastating consequences of mental health stigma and substance abuse, all while conveying a powerful message of accountability and self-care.

Ethan Fisher, a former collegiate star student-athlete, will take our students on a deeply moving and intricate journey through his life. Tragically, he was involved in a drunk driving accident that resulted in the loss of another person's life. Today, Ethan draws from his personal experiences to shine a light on the destructive outcomes of mental health stigmas and substance abuse. Through his story, he will guide our students to realize how the decisions they make can profoundly affect their lives.

Ethan's story deeply resonates with our students, as they can readily relate to a young man whose struggles were concealed by his success in sports and popularity. His narrative has gained recognition in various publications, best-selling leadership books, newspaper articles, podcasts, and radio and television shows, including HLN/CNN. Ethan's life mission is to support others on their journey to a better life.

We invite you to encourage your children to participate in this extraordinary event, as it promises to be a life-changing experience. Together, we can empower our students to make informed choices and shape a brighter future.

If a student would like the retake photo to replace the original photo, please have the student return the original picture package to the photographer on picture day. We will replace the original package at no additional cost.

These proofs will be delivered approx. 4 weeks after picture day. An order code will be on the proof along with ordering instructions.

West River Valley Thrives Survey

YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Help Ban the Sale of Flavored Tobacco Products in VT!

Parents, YOUR voice is important! The Coalition for Tobacco Free Vermont is looking for parents who are concerned about flavored tobacco products (vapes/cigarettes) and would be willing to speak up in whatever way is comfortable. It could be as simple as providing a short quote for a flier, a social media post, or as extensive as writing an op-ed piece for the newspaper.

This is to support the effort to prohibit the sale of menthol and flavored tobacco products, including vapes, in Vermont. Bill S18 is waiting to be taken up by the House in January and the more support that can be gathered, the better chance it has of being brought to a vote.

If you are interested, or would like to learn more before making a decision, please contact Sara Webb at West River Valley Thrives: wrvtengaged@gmail.com
