Friday Notes 3/31/23

SCHOOL INFO

March 31, 2023

Dear L&G Families:

It’s hard to believe that March is officially over after today!  We had our parent conferences live in the gym last night and it was great to see so many families come in and visit with teachers.  This afternoon is the last chance for zoom parent conferences.  If you haven’t made an appointment previously, this is your last chance to email a teacher today and set it up!  They run from 12-3.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bob Thibault

Townshend Elementary School:

Townshend Elementary School is looking for a volunteer/s to coordinate a boys running club afterschool for grades 2-5.  This would probably be for one or two days a week after school.  Days/times can be flexible.  If you have any interest, please see Terry in Room B8.

Jamaica Memorial Library:

Jamaica Memorial Library is exploring the possibility of creating a summer reading program for elementary students who may be at risk of losing literacy skills over the summer.

We are looking for older students (middle and high school) who may act as "literacy partners" for our summer program. Volunteers would be trained in literacy coaching--playing games, practicing sight words, and reading with younger students. We would work out the scheduling and other logistics depending on the response we get, but it would be flexible.

We are also looking for teen volunteers who might be interested in helping with our summer camp, or who might be interested in general volunteering at the library--special projects, library assistance, sorting and helping with our book sale and community book shelf.

If interested, please see Terry in room or B8 or reach out directly to Susan Ahl, Jamaica librarian at librarian@jamaicavtlibrary.org

Check out the word cloud for all the responses.

The same group of 7th & 8th graders were also asked to consider the facts about drugs and alcohol they want their parents to know. The students worked in small groups to put their facts on sheets titled, “Facts I want YOU to know about drugs and alcohol.” Read their facts on the Thrives blog.

Friday Notes 3/24/23

SCHOOL INFO

March 24, 2023

Dear L&G Families:

It’s been a great spirit week!  From watching the students work together on teams during the Games to the annual tradition of the Skits, spirit week is always a little chaotic and a ton of fun!  Huge thanks to Ms. Wells and Ms. Kelly, our spirit advisors as well as to all the class advisors who help guide the students through the details!

With spring just around the corner, we are reminded that this is often our “busy” season; field trips, spring sports, prom, graduation, and of course state assessments.  We will have more details on all of these events in the coming weeks.  Parent conferences are coming up next week  and you should have received appointment information about the Friday “ZOOM” option for conferences from teachers.  Thursday will be “in person” conferences from 2-7pm in the main gym, much like the fall - no appointments are necessary!

One final update - with the two snow days this week, our current total stands at four.  This means that the last day of school for students will now be Friday, June 16th, and will be a Summative Make Up day.  Graduation will still happen on June 10th, and seniors’ final days will be spelled out fairly soon.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bob Thibault
