HEY Help:
HEY Help is back!! HEY (Help empower youth) Help is an after-school program that students are encouraged to attend for help with any classwork they may be having problems with or to just get their homework done before going home. The program runs Monday-Thursday beginning Monday, 9/16, after school in the library until 4:20 at which time the late bus picks up at Leland & Gray.
Please note that HEY Help does not meet when the late bus does not run (the late bus schedule is on the L&G website and the link above).

Picture day will be 9/24! Order packets will be send home with students the week of 9/16.
Middle School Back-to-School Night:
Back-to-School Night is an opportunity for our professional staff to share with families the Middle School programs, curriculum and expectations. The date for the 2019 Middle School Back-to-School Night is Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6:30-7:30 P.M. at Leland and Gray Middle/High School (A level).
The Middle School teachers are looking forward to meeting you at our Back-to-School evening.
Families will follow their student’s schedule for the evening. Attached are blank schedules for grades six, seven and eight. Please have your student fill in their schedule and class locations with you. You can find this information in PowerSchool, if needed.
The evening will begin in your student’s first period class. Student schedules will also be available, should you need it. Exploratory teachers will be available on A level to share details about their classes throughout the evening. Your student is welcome to attend classes with you and encouraged to join you for the evening.

Tri-M Induction Ceremony:
On Thursday, September 19th at 7:30pm the Leland & Gray Music Department will be inducting our newest group of Tri-M Members. The night will consist of solo performances from our new students and some refreshments to follow. The ceremony will be held at the Townshend Church.
Music Parent Meeting:
As our school year begins, we would like to welcome you and your family into the music community here at Leland & Gray. We are very excited to have you here, and want to take this time to celebrate not only the hard work your child will put into the next year in music class, but also the skills that they will develop through their experiences in their ensemble. The lifelong benefits your child will obtain through music expand beyond the classroom and are transferable to every other academic subject.
We also wanted to let you know about the various ways you can get involved in your child’s musical journey this year:

• School board meetings and supporting our music programs
• Chaperoning performance/audition trips
• Encouraging your child to practice, practice, practice!

New Back to School Look for L&G:
If you visit the Leland & Gray Union Middle & High School cafeteria this fall, you might notice a new back to school style.
This summer when the kids went on break their Seed2Tray team went to work. Food Service Director, Chris Parker, wanted to create a fun space for the school community to enjoy their meals for the 2019-2020 school year. First, they gave their kitchens a deep cleaning, and lots of coats of paint. Then turned their focus to the Leland & Gray cafeteria.
“The cafeteria had spent years looking grey and dull, so we recruited the art teacher, Suzanne Paugh from Newbrook Elementary,” says Chris. “She had been the leader on our makeover at Newbrook last year, and I knew I needed her for this project.” Suzanne worked with the incoming 5th and 6th graders to achieve an industrial/graffiti art feel—and the kids were very excited to be a part of such a large project that would impact their school. They created the signs for each station, then painted them before Chef Chris took them back to his woodshop for the finishing touches.
The Seed2Tray team worked hard throughout the school year to get to this point. They applied for a mini grant through Food Connects for a new salad bar, generously donated by Entera Catering. The receipt of the salad bar allows the team to provide a wider variety of options for students to make delicious salads. Chris also worked hard to ensure that Universal Meals were added to the budget for the 2019-2020 school year for the entire school district.
Now school is here, the time they all worked so hard to prepare for. “We are excited to see our students and show them their new cafeteria. They are now welcomed by a new hot line, a new salad bar, a pizza bar, and a sandwich bar complete with panini press. The best part is that every student in Jamaica Village, Townshend, Leland & Gray, and Newbrook will ALL EAT FOR FREE.”

Fairy House Festival:
Fairy House Festival, scheduled for September 28th and 29th.
Fairy House Festival is by far our biggest fundraiser and we couldn't pull it off without the help and generosity of volunteers. It’s because of the funds raised at the Festival that we are able to keep our museum doors open and our programming costs accessible.
Volunteering at Fairy House Festival is not only an opportunity to support The Nature Museum, but also to make new connections and have fun. Volunteer duties include facilitating crafts, being a trail docent, managing the bubble station, and working at the refreshments tent just to name a few.
Students can sign up to volunteer by clicking this link, or by visiting our web page and following the “Fairies”. There, volunteers will be able to choose their shift(s) and sign up to receive a free t-shirt.
Friends of Townshend Food and Beverage Table:
On Sunday September 15th, The Friends of Townshend Public Library will be in charge of the food and beverage table at the Exit 1 Welcome Center on I-91. We are looking for volunteers to bake, cook or donate food/beverage items for visitors that day. Also looking for volunteers (must have their own transportation) to take items to the Welcome Center Sunday morning, set up at 7:30, work at the table, clean up (approximately 3 p.m. but could be earlier) and transport items back to Townshend. Food/donation ideas and the signup sheet is at the library.
