A NOTE FROM THE
SCHOOL NURSE
What
is the immunization law?
Immunization law states that parents are required to fully vaccinate children prior to school or child care entry. Immunizations help to protect the wellbeing of the individual child, his/her classmates and the community.
What are the risks of not vaccinating my children?
Many people incorrectly assume that a choice not to get a vaccine is a risk-free choice, but it isn't. A decision to delay or refuse a vaccine is a decision to place your child, and possibly others, at risk for a vaccine-preventable disease. Studies have shown that unimmunized children are more likely to get vaccine-preventable diseases if there is an outbreak than those who have been immunized. In a global society, the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases is unclear, but we know that over 85 percent of U.S. measles cases in 2010 were imported from other countries. Unimmunized children will be excluded from school during an outbreak

A NOTE FROM THE SAP!
An
e-cigarette is a battery powered device that heats a liquid solution to produce
a vapor for inhalation. The solution varies in nicotine levels, and there is
even a 0% nicotine option for people who are trying to quit. With new
nonsmoking laws in the state of Vermont, e-cigarettes have come under fire
because they do not produce any second hand smoke, only water vapor. Making
them seem safe to others. So does that make it ok for people to smoke inside
restaurants, busses, or buildings? Manufacturers are marketing e-cigarettes
towards teenagers, because they are “cheaper” and “safer” than regular
cigarettes. The FDA does not regulate
e-cigarettes, however in August 2013; they did announce that they might ban
e-cigarettes due to “concern about the safety of these products and how they
are marketed to the public.” Until they
are deemed safe by the FDA the VT Department of health has advised not to use
any of the e-cigarette products on the market.
