A Note From the School Nurse:
To date this calendar year, there have been 37 confirmed pertussis (whooping cough) cases in Vermont, 30 of those from Windham County. Nine of the Windham County cases have been reported since July 15. Cases in Vermont this year have ranged in age from 2 to 41 years, with most cases (73%) occurring in children 6 to 18 years old. Two of these cases were L&G students.

Clinical symptoms of pertussis can include:
-paroxysmal cough of any duration, especially if followed by whooping, vomiting, or gagging

See a doctor if you or your child is exhibiting
symptoms of pertussis or if you or your child has been coughing for at least

After School Programs:
HEY! Help
will begin on Monday, September 8th and run at the following times:
Mon-Fri 7:15-7:45 in the Library
and Mon - Thurs 2:45-4:15, Mon in A11, Tues-Thurs in the Library.
Please remember there is no food allowed in the library so finish your breakfast and snack before entering the Library for HEY! Help.

A Note
from Dr. Dorfman:
A Message to Leland and Gray Staff, Parents and Students
from the Building and Grounds Committee
The Town of Townshend has poured gravel on the right-of-way
behind the Dutton Gym to create a parking lot for the town hall. In the past they have used
the right-of-way about once every five years. This unexpected development creates increased traffic in the
driveway on the right side of the school, between the main building and Dutton
Gym. For safety reasons, we ask for all students and staff to exercise caution
in this area, to walk slowly, to look for cars when crossing, and to avoid
hanging around this area. If you have concerns, please contact the town clerk's
office at 365-7300.
In addition, to increase safety before school and during
lunch, school faculty/staff will increase monitoring near the
right-of-way. During after-school programs that meet in Dutton, students will
be encouraged to walk from the main entrance on A-Level, not from the cafeteria
C-Level.
Everyone's cooperation is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
West Townshend Farmers’ Market:
Every Friday until October 10th from 4-7, rain or shine, the Farmers’ Market will be held at the West Townshend Country Store. Local vendors and musicians will be at the Market; this week there will be live music from local musicians Michael Donahue, Bob Naess and Sally Newton.

Guest Speaker:
On September 26th, Ed Gerety will be coming to Leland and Gray to talk about leadership and growth. Ed graduate from the University of New Hampshire where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. At 22 years of age he established his own business dedicated to helping others develop as leaders and reach out and make a difference. Since that time he has shared his powerful message in all 50 states, Canada, and Europe. He is the author and co-author of five books on the topics of leadership and personal development.

Soccer Results:
On
Saturday, August 30th the Girls and Boys Varsity Soccer Teams opened
the season at home against BFA-Fairfax.
The Girls Varsity won 4-1 and the Boys Varsity won 1-0. The Booster Club provided lunch for the two
teams and the teams participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and raised
$225 for the ALS Foundation. Check out
