Rocktober Fest:
ROCKTOBERFEST 2015 will take place on Friday, October 2nd from 7:00 - 10:00pm open to all students in grades 7 - 12.
This is an all-school event sponsored by the Spirit Team. Classes who have the best percentage of their class attending will also win Spirit Points!
The Outdoor Dance/Bonfire will set up on the parking lot closest to the soccer field. If inclement weather we will move the dance indoors! Admission to the event is just $5.00. Concessions will be available for purchase from the L & G Sports Boosters Club. If you would like to volunteer to help set up for this event please see Mrs. Claussen.

Parent Conferences:
Attention all Parents: Please e-mail pbrissette@lelandandgray.org and make your reservation for Parent Conferences which are on October 15th! Middle School parents: you have the choice of team conferences between noon and 3:00 or individual conferences from 3:30-7:00. HS conferences are 3:30-7:30 only.

Refuse to Use:
Free/Reduced School Meals:
If your family was eligible for Free /Reduced school meals last year and we have not received an application for the current year you must submit an application by 9/25/2015 or your child(ren) will have to pay the full price. If you have a letter approving you for VT 3Squares, SNAP, or Reach-Up we can approve your student(s) for free meals. Please send a copy of the letter.
As of 10/7/2015, your child(ren) may have to the pay the following prices for school meals:
Breakfast: $1.75
Lunch: $2.75

Leland and Gray, in partnership with West River Valley Dentistry is offering free dental care to students in need. This partnership is for students without a dentist, or students who have not seen a dentist in several years. A student must have written parental consent to join this program and meet the above criteria. From Drivers Ed:
Distracted driving has become the number one cause of motor vehicle crashes (yes, out numbering driving while under the influence.) Two September events, geared for parents and students, focus on the dangers of distracted driving.
Leland and Gray will host Turn off Texting on Monday, Sept 21st and Thursday, Sept 24th. On both days, from 9:30 – 2:30, participants will get to experience first hand the dangers of texting and driving. Developed by the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles and presented by the Youth Safety Council of Vermont, Turn Off Texting is a demonstration that raises awareness about the dangers of distracted driving by putting students and adults behind the wheel of a golf cart to navigate a course of cones while texting. Please try and find some time during the day to take the golf cart for a spin.
Also on Monday, Sept 21 at 6 pm in the main gymnasium, Leland and Gray is hosting a presentation by professional race car driver Andy Pilgram, from Boca Raton, FL. Andy Pilgram has been a professional race car driver for over 26 years; Andy has won 5 championships and 62 races so far in his professional racing career. In 2008, Andy created The Andy Pilgram Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to educate new drivers, parents and all adults about the deadly problems associated with distracted driving. Andy's presentation is specifically geared for students and their parents in grades 7-12. All adults attending the presentation will receive a complimentary copy of the DVD, The Parent Driving Zone. Andy describes the DVD as “the essential driving information all parents need to know.”

L.E.A.F. (Leland & Gray Environmental Action Force) Starting!
High School students will have lunch meetings every Friday in the co-op room.
Middle & High School Students can join us after school on Wednesdays starting September 16th.

Farming and gardening - Help us plan and execute the new L&G School Community Garden

Attend youth conferences with other students who love and want to protect our environment
Watch interesting science movies and eat popcorn!

Junior Iron Chef:
"Jr Iron Chef Vermont is a statewide culinary competition that challenges teams of middle and high school students to create healthy, local dishes that inspire school meal programs." (http://dev.vtfeed.org/). We are having an organizational meeting, for any middle and/or high school students, on Tuesday, Sept 15th from 2:45-4:25 pm. The teams will meet every Tuesday afternoon throughout the school year to plan and practice for the state-wide competition held in the spring.If you enjoy cooking, are an aspiring chef, enjoy working with food and creating recipes... please join us on the 15th. Late Bus:
The late bus will begin running on Monday, September 14th.
The late bus runs Monday - Thursday. The late bus does not run on half days or on Wednesdays during Winter Sports.

Opportunities:
Students: interested in being a Peer Tutor? a counselor at the Elementary Schools during their after school programs? interested in running your OWN after school program? These are all paid opportunities offered through the After School Program. See Dale if interested.
Community Members/Teachers/Staff: The After School programs are looking for another staff member to assist students with homework during afternoon HEY! Help. Please see or e-mail Dale if interested.
