Friday Notes 3/12/21

SCHOOL INFO:

March 12, 2021

Dear L&G Families:

It is with great excitement that I inform you that our faculty and staff are getting the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine this afternoon!!!  The entire WCSU staff will be coming to L&G today and then again on April 2nd.  There will be no disruptions to school as a result!

Picture Day

The new, rescheduled dates for pictures are:

  • Cohort A & 6th graders Tuesday, March 30

  • Cohort B & Remote Academy Friday, April 2

Ordering forms were already sent home, and can be still used.  Additionally you may order online at www.geskusprint.com and our unique code is JAR59H6E.  We ask for all students to participate so that we’ll have pictures for the yearbook!

Progress Reports

Quarter 3 progress reports were sent home earlier this week.

Parent Conferences

Teachers should be emailing  invitations to each family and guardians can select their time slot  via signup.com.  Conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 17 from 12-3pm and on Thursday, March 18 from 2-7pm.  Thursday will be an early release day for cohort B, with dismissal at 11:30am.  Busses will run at that time for dismissal.

Board Meeting

This Monday night, the West River School Board will be having their monthly meeting.  The agenda includes a discussion of possible reopening plans for the spring, which might include 5 days for the elementary schools, but is unlikely to change much for L&G unless the Agency of Education and Vermont Department of Health modify the distancing guidance.  I know there’s been a lot in the news about this, and I wanted to express that as long as the 6’ distancing exists for grades 7-12, we must operate on a hybrid schedule.  We aren’t fully sure what might come as we get closer to herd immunity this spring.  The agenda (with login link) is on the website.

Reminders

  • Thursday, March 18th will be an early release day at 11:30am

  • This weekend is Daylight Savings - Spring ahead 1 hour!!!

  • Spring sports will start on April 5 (baseball pitchers and catchers 3/29)

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Journey East Meeting:

Journey East 2022 is moving forward and beginning to recruit for the 2022 program. Journey East is a semester-long program, where students enroll in Asian studies and performing arts program for their spring semester of 2022. During this academy, students will travel to China for a month-long performing arts exchange. Before departing for China students study Chinese language, history, and culture. They also work together to create a unique performance that can be enjoyed by limited English-speaking audiences. Upon returning from China they will perform their show locally and continue their study of China by completing a personal research project.  We are having an information night on Tuesday, March 16th from 7-8 where you can learn more about the program and ask any questions.  Here is the zoom link:https://zoom.us/j/94051341626?pwd=dVVyNytnY3dOT1pEbk5KakFXTFZvQT09
Students who are currently in grades 8-11 are eligible to apply.
