SCHOOL INFO
April 8, 2022
Dear L&G Families:
It’s hard to believe that we are already in April, but we’re starting to see the early signs of spring, for sure! Spring is always a very busy time of year in schools, as we approach the end of the school year and graduation. We have one more week until April Break, and I know that for many of us, we could use the time off to de-stress and get recharged for the final push of May and June.
Social Media:
I wanted to just take an opportunity to share with families that one of the biggest challenges that we face on a daily basis in school is the misuse of social media by students to cause harm to other students. Much of this occurs outside of school hours, but when the behavior causes the victim to either resist coming to school or to have poor academic performance, even that off-campus behavior becomes under our domain. As many of us as parents grew up in times prior to this, it’s often hard to understand the impact that this might have on our kids. Please do your part to supervise what your kids are doing online - particularly for the younger students. It’s OK for us as parents to require our kids to give us logins and passwords so that we can periodically monitor their actions - after all, it’s us who’s paying the bill, right?
Vaping:
The second biggest challenge that we are facing is the significant use of vape/electronic smoking devices, particularly by girls, and while in the bathrooms. This is concerning for many of our students who don’t want to use the bathrooms while this is happening, and of course it’s concerning for those doing it, as the chemicals inside these devices are often even more harmful than cigarettes. Please ask your kids about how they feel about this issue and if they need support in quitting, our SAP, Luis Vargas (lvargas@windhamcentral.org) can help!
Upcoming Dates:
Wednesday, April 13 - Early Release Day (Teacher In-Service)
Week of April 18th - VACATION!
May - SBAC assessments, Prom, etc!
