SCHOOL INFO
October 14, 2022
Dear L&G Families:
Thank you for the turnout at parent conferences yesterday, and the zoom conferences this afternoon. Having regular conversations with parents is a vital part of ensuring a high quality experience for your child at school!
Speaking of which, if you haven’t yet completed the parent survey, please scan the QR code below or go to THIS LINK and enter the L&G code of 1150123760.
If you missed my communication earlier this week, please read the following:
I am writing to let you know that as of this Friday, Ms. Masterman, our new Art teacher this year, will be leaving L&G due to family reasons. While this is initially concerning - we have no other art teacher - we are already searching for her replacement. We will have a sub in the high school classes until we can fill the position. In the middle school exploratory classes, however, we will shift away from art for the time being (cycle 2- 8th grade) and instead our librarian/media specialist, Ms. Greenbaum, will be running an exploratory in Leadership Development. We thank you for your patience as we continue to search. If you have an 8th grader right now who was scheduled to take art in the coming weeks, please read this letter (link inserted) from Ms. Greenbaum about her curriculum. On a related note - if you know of any Art Teachers looking for work, send them my way!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Bob Thibault
Principal

About the workshop:
“Your Own Wild Voice with Moira Smiley
The human voice has astonishing range and color, and - as with our lungs & brains - we may not use it to its full glory! This fast-paced, fun workshop playfully explodes your assumptions about your own voice. We will explore fresh, physical ways into singing. Eastern European and Appalachian songs will root you, while call & response, vocal improvising and movement will keep you discovering ever more inventive parts of you. Moira playfully draws out techniques, timbres and styles you always knew were in you as a singer or writer, but maybe hadn't felt you could bring out! Singers of all experience levels are welcome.”
About the artist:
“Moira is a performer, composer and teacher who grew up in Vermont, attended Village Harmony camps and later taught Village Harmony sessions. Moira’s academic specialty is Early Music, and she has developed parallel experience with various folk traditions – especially early American, Irish, and Balkan vocal styles. By exploring the particularities of traditions, styles, and periods, she’s found something uniquely her own. She’s performed with the likes of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Tune-Yards, Tim O’Brien, Eric Whitacre, Los Angeles Master Chorale, New World Symphony, Solas, and The Lyric String Quartet.”

COMMUNITY SERVICE
The Junior Ambassador Program:

What is the Junior Ambassador Program? This is a fun Youth Leadership Board of the Stratton Community Foundation, made up of teens from different schools across southern Vermont. JRA's play a critical role in the mission and impact of the Foundation. Together, we address the needs among our local youth, create ways to help those less fortunate, and join in fundraising and volunteer opportunities. This is a chance to be heard and to do good.
What is my role as a Junior Ambassador? The Stratton Foundation will call a Zoom Meeting every other month to talk about new issues and share opportunities for community service. We recognize that many of you have sports, homework, jobs and other obligations. Meetings will be held to 30 minutes. The amount of time required is up to you.
