Friday Notes 10/28/22

SCHOOL INFO

October 28, 2022

Dear L&G Families:

Thank you Rebel Nation for another great week!

Our week began with an assembly hosted by the Tri-M Music Honor Society - students played musical chairs and music trivia and everyone had a great time!  On Thursday, our student intergroup dialog group met with our facilitators from the Collaborative (Northampton, MA) and continued to work on how to have hard conversations about complex topics.

Last Chance:

If you haven’t yet completed the parent survey, please scan the QR code below or go to THIS LINK and enter the L&G code of 1150123760.

My final announcement for the week - if you haven’t heard yet - is that the WCSU Board has announced that starting on July 1, 2023, I will be the new Superintendent of Schools.  I’m very excited about this new opportunity for me, both personally and professionally, and I want you to know that we will begin searching for my replacement here at L&G after the Thanksgiving break.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Bob Thibault

Principal

Basketball Sign-Ups:

Attention students and families ~
If your student athlete is planning to play basketball this winter please get them signed up on the registration website.  www.formRELeaf.com
Use your previous log-in (or first time athletes need to create an account), choose Leland & Gray, then select "2022-23 Winter Athletics".  The sooner you register, the better prepared I can be with coaches and schedules for the start of the season.  High School Basketball will begin on November 28th, and Middle School will begin on December 5th.  Remember that all athletes need to have a current physical that covers them for two years through the season, which ends in February for MS and March for HS.  Any questions feel free to contact me, Tammy Claussen at:   tclaussen@windamcentral.org  or phone (802)221-2128

Music Department Field Trip:

Last week a committed group of singers piled into cars and drove up to Plainfield VT. We sang in a workshop with Moira Smiley, a Vermont born composer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and music educator. During the workshop we explored the full range of the human voice and learned parts of her concert program so we could join in.

Following the workshop, we enjoyed a concert of traditional and original songs, one of which was a world premiere. For some students this was their first ever professional concert!

The students had a blast and hopefully will remember some of the teachings from the awesome workshop. If you see any of these great kiddos ask them about their experience.

NHS Induction:

On Monday October 17th, 11 new National Honor Society members were inducted into the Leland and Gray chapter of the NHS.  These students join 9 seniors who were inducted last year.  Together this group of students will participate in various service opportunities throughout the school year including; Project Feed the Thousands, baking for the local food pantry, and Raise the Bar.  If you see any of these students, please congratulate them on their achievement!
