Journey Away

Last weekend Journey Away 2024 had a launch weekend at a South Newfane retreat center called Willow. Students spent the weekend bonding together and making memories. The first day was filled with lots of sledding and a small hike up to an abandoned cabin. Students also started a scavenger hunt put together by Journey Away leader Jessa. That night students split up into smaller groups to make (and clean up!) dinner which was homemade pizzas to order. In the morning students got the option to join in on some yoga. The second day, we all made collages to represent who we are and while collaging, students made interview questions for Willow hosts Tom and Ravi for an Oral History. Students spent Saturday afternoon, finishing up their scavenger hunt. One group took the quest of making a snow creature to the next level, spending about 2 hours creating an ice man named Herbert. Saturday night students' parents dropped off amazing home cooked food to share with the group for last night's dinner. If you're one of those parents it was greatly appreciated! After dinner on Saturday, students split into small groups to perform a Variety Show involving a Vermont culture skit, a song made from a list of places we are heading, special talents, and synchronized yoga poses. What a great way to showcase a weekend full of bonding! Sunday morning we conducted our first Oral History with Tom and Ravi using the interview questions made the day before. This was a lovely launch weekend and we are excited for more adventures to come!  - Written by Soob Soobitsky

Flu, COVID, RSV, Colds - A Note from the School Nurse:

Typical of this time of year, there are multiple viral illnesses visiting our district. Please stay home if you are ill, wash your hands frequently, cover your cough, rest if you are ill, drink plenty of fluids, and call your PCP if you have any concerns.  Vaccines are an important part of protecting yourself and your loved ones.

Yearbook Deadlines February 16: Senior Quote and Activities List Activities are limited to school activities (sports, clubs, theater) April 19: Parent/Business Ads Anyone can purchase an ad for any of the graduating seniors. It will be displayed in the back of the yearbook and is available in ¼, ½, or full pages. May 17: Yearbook Purchases Purchasing is available at any time. Use the QR code on the right to order yours now! All photos and writing submissions must be appropriate and are subject to editing, if necessary.  Please contact Sarah Grasso at SGrasso@Windhamcentral.edu for specific questions about yearbook information.	Graduation  Caps & Gowns Cap and gown orders through Jostens are due Friday, February 2, 2024! Order at bit.ly/LGGrad24  (case sensitive)  or by scanning the QR code. Reminder, you are NOT required to buy anything except a cap and gown.  If you already have a cap and gown from a previous graduate, you are welcome to use those instead of buying new ones.
	Fundraising Needs The senior class needs to ramp up fundraising in order to meet our goal of an overnight trip to NYC. How can you help? HS Snow Ball (Saturday, Feb 10th, 6-9 PM) Donate baked goods, snacks,  or soda to sell Volunteer to help chaperon MS Valentines Movie Night (Wed, Feb 14th, 7-9) Donate baked goods, snacks,  or soda to sell Make posters to put up in the middle school Recycling Cans & Bottles Bring clean recyclables (cans, bottles, jars) to L&G for seniors to sort and redeem at Wardsboro center.
Community Service The class of 2024 must complete a minimum of 30 hours of community service to graduate–AND to attend prom.  Volunteer Opportunities: Brattleboro Food Coop - pack groceries for the food shelf and other tasks. West River Valley Thrives - engage in community action projects VT Green Up Day - Sat, May 6th

High School Snow Ball 2024

RTU

RTU Event 4 (all grades) will be held at Dutton Gym (at L&G) from 7pm to 8:30pm. This is a mandatory Event for all students, and caring adults.

Hoops for Hope 

Leland & Gray Union HS/MS hosts these special events:

February 9th:  JVB/VB vs. Green Mountain  5:30 pm / 7:00 pm

February 10th:  VG vs. Rivendell  2:30pm

Donations for this event will support three memorial scholarships:  Ann Chapman, Alexis Giallella, and Arthur Monette as well as a donation to the American Cancer Society!
